A camera with a grid that stays level

PhysioCam is a calm camera for photos in movement work. The live view fills the whole screen, and the grid isn't stuck to the edges of the phone but to the room. That makes it easier to take the photo from the same spot, at the same level, next week and next month.

01At work

With children, older people and people with disabilities

The app is made for physiotherapists, coaches and therapists who photograph alignment, exercises or equipment and want to do it the same way every time. Whom you photograph, and why, is up to you. PhysioCam doesn't assess anything.

Short sessions and a lot of movement. Freeze holds the image at the right moment, and you save the photo only once the frame is right.
Exercises with an older person
The shutter is silent, so nothing startles. A line drawn on the frozen image helps show a movement worth repeating at home.
Seating in a wheelchair
A photo from the last visit, laid over the live view, helps you stand in the same place and take a comparable shot of the seat or support.

You collect consent for the photo yourself, and for children the consent of a parent or guardian, just as with any other camera.

02Live view

The whole screen is the live view

The controls sit at the bottom, within thumb reach, and never cover the frame. Tap anywhere on the image to take a photo. The shutter is silent, and the live view keeps running after each shot.

You switch lenses just like in the built-in Camera app: 0.5×, 1× and 2×, depending on your iPhone. Zoom also works with a pinch and with a slider in settings.

03Grid

A grid that stays with the room

A normal camera grid is stuck to the screen. Tilt the phone a little and the lines tilt with it, so nothing stays upright. In PhysioCam the grid responds to how the phone is held, so its lines stay square with the wall and the floor.

Density, thickness, opacity: Set them with sliders so the grid helps rather than hides the picture. The centre axis is stronger than the other lines, and the crosshair in the middle uses your accent colour.
Level: Works in portrait and landscape. It shows no numbers, just two marks that line up when the phone is straight.

The grid and the level describe the position of the phone. They don't measure anything about the person in the frame.

04Freeze

Freeze and draw

Pause holds the image, for example at the bottom of a squat. The camera keeps running in the background, so going back to live is instant.

You save the frozen frame with its own button. It goes to Photos with the grid and the drawing, and the stamp shows the moment you froze it. Tapping the screen only resumes the live view, so nothing gets saved by accident.

Draw with your finger on the live or the frozen image. Undo the last line, or clear everything with one button.

05Reference image

The same framing at the next session

You can lay a semi-transparent photo from your library over the live view, for example one from the last visit. Move the phone until the two images match, then take the photo from the same spot. A slider sets the opacity.

The reference image is shown on screen only. It never goes onto the saved photo and disappears when the app closes. If your screen is being shown on another device over AirPlay, the app warns you before opening your library.

06Saved photo

What goes on the photo

The saved photo looks exactly like the frame on screen: the same field of view, with the grid and the drawing in the same places.

Date and time: An optional stamp in your iPhone's own date format.
Custom text: Up to 40 characters, e.g. a set number. It's never stored and is cleared when the app closes.
Face blur: Faces are detected on the iPhone, offline, and blurred on the saved photo. If no face is found, the app tells you, so you can check the photo yourself.
Quality: Standard (1080p) or High (4K where the camera supports it).

07Settings

Control over the image

Exposure compensation, focus lock, front and back cameras, and a light with three brightness levels. Rotation lock helps when the phone is on a tripod.

Mirror flips the live view like a mirror, which helps when the person exercising watches the screen. Saved photos are never mirrored.

A status strip at the top reminds you of settings that change the result and are easy to forget: Mirror, face blur, focus lock, rotation lock and the light.

The interface is dark and quiet so it doesn't compete with the image. Pick one of four accent colours: Neutral, Blue, Rose or Teal. Photo, zoom, freeze and settings are all available in VoiceOver.

Privacy

The app has no account or sign-in and doesn't connect to the internet. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.

Photos go only to the system Photos app. PhysioCam asks only for permission to add photos, so it can't see your library. The reference image, drawings and custom text live in memory only and are gone when the app closes.
