Privacy Policy

Tapello is an AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) app: a board of speaking tiles that a caregiver sets up for one person. It is made by Filip Lechowicz, a sole proprietor in Poland, publishing under the Built in the Attic brand. He is the controller for any personal data described here.

In short

• Tapello has no accounts, no sign-up and no servers of its own. The developer does not receive your data.
• No advertising, no analytics, no tracking.
• Your tiles, photos and recordings stay on your device, and in your own private iCloud if you turn on sync.

What Tapello stores

• Tiles you create: names, colours, pictures (photos or symbols), recorded messages, optional information text, and board settings.
• Boards: which tiles are on which board and their layout.
• Optional activity: how many times each tile was tapped. Kept only on this device and not synced.
• An optional Settings PIN, stored in the iOS Keychain on this device only. It is not in iCloud or in backups.

Information text on a tile may include health information (for example allergies or a phone number). It is stored like the rest of the tile and shown only on the board.

Where your data is

• On your iPhone or iPad.
• If you turn on iCloud sync: in your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit). Only you can access it. The developer cannot.
• Widgets read a small copy of your tiles stored in a shared container on the same device.
• A backup file is created only when you ask for it, and goes wherever you choose to save or send it.

Permissions

• Microphone - only while you record a tile's message.
• Camera and photos - only to choose a tile's picture.
• Face ID or Touch ID - only to confirm it is you when you forget the Settings PIN. Tapello never receives your face or fingerprint data; iOS only tells it whether the check succeeded.

Purchases

Tapello Premium is a one-time purchase handled by Apple. Tapello does not receive your payment details.

People using the board

Tapello is set up by a caregiver and used by children, teenagers and adults. It does not collect data about the person using the board and sends nothing to the developer.

Websites

builtintheattic.com and hellotapello.com do not use cookies, analytics or tracking. The hosting provider, Cloudflare, may log basic technical data such as IP addresses for security. If you write to us through the contact form on hellotapello.com or by e-mail, your message (with your e-mail address) goes to the developer's inbox at Google (Gmail) and is used only to answer you. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that you are not a bot.

Not a medical device or emergency service

Tapello supports communication. It is not an emergency service. In an emergency, call 112 or your local emergency number.

Your rights

You can change or delete tiles in the app, or delete the app to remove everything stored on the device. To delete iCloud data: iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Tapello. If you email the developer, your message is used only to answer you; you can ask for it to be deleted. You may also complain to your data protection authority (in Poland: Prezes UODO).

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date.
