BigHelpButton
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
1. Who is responsible
BigHelpButton (the "App") is made and published under the brand Built in the Attic by:
Filip Lechowicz, running a sole proprietorship (jednoosobowa działalność gospodarcza)
ul. Błażeja 11F/43, 61-608 Poznań, Poland
Tax ID (NIP): 9721349996
Privacy contact: builtintheattic@gmail.com
("Developer", "we").
2. Summary
- We do not collect, receive or store any personal data of users.
- The App has no account, no server, no analytics, no ads, no tracking tools and no third-party libraries that send data.
- Everything you enter in the App stays on the iPhone where it is installed.
- Messages are sent by Apple's Messages app, always after the user taps Send, and only to the people the user chose.
As we do not process users' personal data, we are not the controller of the data entered in the App or of the content of the messages sent.
3. Data saved on the iPhone
The App saves in its own storage on the device:
- the senior's name (or nickname),
- family contacts: names and phone numbers,
- the text of the HELP and I'M OKAY messages,
- settings (e.g. voice guidance, reminder, I'M OKAY button),
- the settings PIN and the recovery code, stored only as a one-way hash from which the digits or the code cannot be read,
- information about the last message: type, time, text, recipients, result and the location, if one was included.
The file is protected by iOS encryption. This data may be included in the iPhone's backup (iCloud or computer) if the user has backups turned on. Backups are managed by the user and Apple, not by us.
Deleting the App deletes its data from the iPhone. It does not delete messages already sent or backups made earlier.
4. Location
- The App asks for location permission "While Using the App". It never reads the location in the background.
- The location is read only after HELP or I'M OKAY is pressed, and only to add a map link and its accuracy to the message.
- The link points to Google Maps (maps.google.com). When a recipient opens it, the coordinates are sent to Google under Google's privacy policy, which we do not control.
- Without location permission, the App still works and the message says "Location unavailable".
- The permission can be withdrawn at any time in iOS Settings.
5. Contacts
With "Add from Contacts", iOS gives the App only the one number the user picks. The App has no access to the whole address book and does not ask for it.
Third-party data. By entering another person's phone number, the user is responsible for that person agreeing to receive messages from the App, including the senior's location. We recommend telling everyone on the list and sending them a test message.
6. Messages and recovery code
- Messages (HELP, I'M OKAY, test, recovery code) are sent by Apple's Messages app as SMS, MMS or iMessage, under the terms of the mobile carrier and Apple. Carrier charges may apply.
- The App never sends a message on its own. The user always taps Send.
- A copy of each sent message stays in the Messages app on the sender's iPhone and on the recipients' phones.
- The recovery code can also be shared or copied using a method the user chooses; that service's terms then apply.
7. Other iOS features
- Voice guidance is produced on the iPhone (iOS speech or recordings included in the App). Nothing is sent.
- The monthly reminder is a local iOS notification and needs notification permission.
- Siri, Shortcuts and the Action Button work under Apple's terms. Siri requests are processed by Apple under its privacy policy.
- The battery level is checked on the iPhone only to show a warning.
- The widget does not store or read any data. It only opens the App.
8. Apple
The App is downloaded from the App Store. Apple processes data about purchases, downloads and device operation under its own terms. If the user agrees in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. They do not identify the user and do not contain anything entered in the App.
9. Children
The App is set up by an adult family member. It may also be used by a child or a person with a disability in that family's care. The Developer does not collect any data, including children's data: everything the family enters stays on the iPhone.
10. Your rights
Because we have no access to your data, we cannot provide, correct or delete it. You have full control on the iPhone: change it in Family settings or delete it together with the App. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in Poland the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO, uodo.gov.pl), or the authority in your country.
If you e-mail us, we process your address and message only to reply (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and keep them until the matter is closed, for no longer than 2 years. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict and object to this processing.
11. Important limitations and liability
- The App is not an emergency service, a telecare system or a medical device. It does not call emergency numbers, does not detect falls and does not monitor health. In an emergency, call 112, 911 or your local emergency number.
- The App does not guarantee that a message is delivered or that anyone responds. "Sent" means the iPhone handed the message over for sending. Delivery depends on coverage, the carrier, Apple's services, battery, phone settings and the recipients' phones, among other things.
- The location may be inaccurate, out of date or unavailable (e.g. indoors, without permission, or with "Precise Location" off).
- The PIN is not an absolute lock. It protects against changing settings by accident, not against someone with access to the phone and the recovery code.
- The user (family) is responsible for setting up the App correctly, keeping numbers up to date, testing it regularly, and explaining to the senior and the recipients how it works.
- The App is provided "as is". To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Developer is not liable for damage resulting from a message not being delivered, being delayed or containing wrong information, from inaccurate location, from failures of the device, network or third-party services, or from using the App other than as intended. This does not exclude liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for damage caused intentionally, and does not affect consumer rights.
- Use of the App is also governed by Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement.
12. Changes
We may update this policy, for example when the App gets new features. The new version will be published on this page with a new date. If we ever start collecting any data, we will update this policy before releasing that feature.
13. Governing law
This policy is governed by Polish law, without affecting mandatory consumer protection laws of the user's country of residence.
