Privacy Policy

Effective date: 18 October 2026 · Version: 1.0

1. Summary

ipse. does not send your data to us. There is no account, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Everything you write stays on your iPhone and, if you leave iCloud sync on, in your own private iCloud. We cannot see it.

2. Who we are

The app is published by Filip Lechowicz, a sole proprietorship in Poland, trading as Built in the Attic. Contact: builtintheattic@gmail.com.

Because we receive none of the content you enter in the app, we are not the controller of that data. You are (see section 11).

3. What the app stores

DataWhere it livesWhy
Journal reflections: the question, your 1–5 rating, your note, datesYour iPhone; your private iCloud if sync is onTo show your Journal
Questions saved for laterSameTo show your Journal
Optional first nameSameTo greet you ("Good evening, Filip.")
Optional genderSameOnly to pick the grammatical form of a question in languages that need it (e.g. Polish)
Together profiles: two names or nicknames and the type of relationshipSameTo keep progress for each pair. Together never saves what anyone says
Simple activity counters (cards seen or skipped, active days)SameTo show your statistics and apply the daily skip limit
Settings: language, backgrounds, topics to avoidSameTo remember your choices
Today's card (question, greeting, picture name)A shared folder on your iPhone, readable only by the ipse. widgetTo show the widget
One yes/no marker that onboarding is finishedYour iPhone (system settings storage)To avoid showing onboarding again

None of this is sent to us or to any server we operate. Data is kept until you delete it or delete the app.

4. iCloud sync

Sync is on by default so that you do not lose your Journal when you change or lose your phone. Data is stored in the private CloudKit database of your own Apple ID, in the app's container. It is compressed and stored in encrypted fields. We have no access to it. You can turn sync off in Settings, and the app then stops sending changes. Data already sent to iCloud is not recalled automatically; to remove it, use the delete-everything option in Settings while sync is on, or manage iCloud storage in iOS Settings.

Where you use several devices, notes are merged between them. Deletions are synced too, so that deleted items do not come back.

5. Backup, restore and export

You can export selected Journal notes as TXT, DOCX or PDF through the iOS share sheet. Export files are created on your iPhone and go only where you send them. They are never sent to us. iCloud and computer backups of your iPhone are made by Apple or by you and are outside our control.

6. Face ID and the Journal

The Journal opens only with Face ID, every time. There is no passcode fallback. Face ID is handled by iOS; the app never sees your face data and only receives a yes or no. Face ID is an access lock, not encryption of the content. The app hides its content in the app switcher where it matters.

7. Permissions

ipse. asks only for Face ID, and only to open the Journal. It does not ask for camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendars, photos, Health data or notifications, and does not use the advertising identifier.

8. Widget

The widget shows today's card from a folder shared only between the app and its widget on your iPhone. It only reads that folder and sends nothing anywhere.

9. Ads, analytics, tracking

None. The app has no advertising or analytics tools and does not track you across apps or websites. In the App Store privacy section it is declared as collecting no data.

10. Purchases and Apple data

The current version has no purchases. If that changes, Apple will process payments and we will not receive your payment details or Apple ID. If you opt in to sharing diagnostics in iOS Settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us.

11. Notes about other people and sensitive content

A reflection or a Together name can concern other people, and can reveal sensitive matters (for example health, relationships or beliefs, which the GDPR treats as special categories in Art. 9). We never see this content. Like a paper diary, what you write is your responsibility, and you are responsible for securing your phone. The "topics to avoid" setting only filters which questions appear.

12. Messages you send us

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply, under legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), and keep them for a limited time.

13. Website

builtintheattic.com uses no tracking cookies and no analytics. Its hosting provider, Cloudflare, may keep standard technical server logs.

14. Your rights

For the little data we do control (for example your emails), you can ask for access, correction or deletion by writing to builtintheattic@gmail.com. Data inside the app is under your control: you can edit or delete it in the app at any time. You can complain to the Polish supervisory authority (Prezes UODO) or to the authority in your country.

15. Children

ipse. is intended for adults. It is not directed at children.

16. What the app is

ipse. is a tool for reflection and conversation. It is not therapy, a medical device or a records system and does not diagnose or assess anyone. If you are struggling, please talk to a professional or someone you trust. Apple's standard licence agreement applies to the app.

17. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and significant changes will be mentioned in the App Store release notes.

18. Governing law and contact

Polish law and the GDPR apply. Contact: builtintheattic@gmail.com.
