In short

  • Go Back Places works without an account and without our own servers.
  • Your places, notes and photos are stored only on your iPhone.
  • We do not collect, sell or share your personal data.
  • There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.
  • Some features use Apple services (for example maps and in-app purchases). Apple handles that data under its own privacy policy.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" refer to the person above. "You" means the user of the app.

What the app does with your data

All data listed below is processed only on your device. We do not receive it and cannot see it.

  • Location. The app uses your location only while you are using it ("While Using the App"), to save a place, to show the direction and distance back to it, and to show how far away your places are. The app does not track your location in the background and does not keep a record of where you have been, other than the places you choose to save.
  • Saved places. For each place the app stores the name, coordinates, the GPS accuracy at the time of saving, the date and time, the icon and color you chose, whether it is a favorite, and your note. Quick Spots you replace are kept in the Quick Spot history on your device until you delete them (up to 50 entries).
  • Photos and camera. The app only accesses photos you pick yourself in the iOS photo picker, or photos you take with the camera from inside the app. Copies of these photos are stored in the app's private storage on your device. The app does not read the rest of your photo library.
  • Compass and motion. The app reads the compass heading and the tilt of your iPhone to point the arrow. This data is used live and is not stored.
  • Settings. Your chosen color theme, appearance (Light, Dark or System) and similar preferences are stored on your device.

What leaves your device, and when

Your data leaves your iPhone only in the following cases:

  • When you share a place. If you tap Share, the app prepares a message with the place name, a map link and the coordinates. Your note is included only if you switch on "Include note" (it is off by default, every time). The message is sent by the app you choose (for example Messages, Mail or WhatsApp). From that moment the recipient and the chosen app are responsible for that information, under their own terms and policies. Please make sure you want to share a place, especially if it is private, before you send it.
  • When you use Apple Maps features. Showing maps, searching for a place in "Choose on Map" and opening directions in Apple Maps use Apple's services. Apple may receive, for example, the map area you are viewing or your search text. This is processed by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
  • When you buy Go Back Places Pro or restore purchases. Payments are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, payment details or Apple Account information. We only learn, through Apple, anonymous sales totals as reported in App Store Connect.
  • Backups. If you use iCloud Backup or back up your iPhone to a computer, iOS may include the app's data in that backup. Backups are managed by Apple and by you, not by us.
  • Crash reports and statistics from Apple. If you have agreed in iOS settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. These do not contain your places, notes or photos. You can change this in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

What we do not do

  • We do not operate servers that receive your data.
  • We do not use advertising, advertising identifiers or tracking across apps and websites.
  • We do not use third-party analytics or advertising tools.
  • We do not sell or rent any data.

How long data is kept, and how to delete it

Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it. You can:

  • delete a single place, its note and photos inside the app;
  • clear the Quick Spot history in the app;
  • delete all app data at once by deleting the app from your iPhone.

Data that you shared with other people, or that is contained in your own backups, is outside our control.

Security

Data is protected by the security features of iOS, including the device passcode and data protection. Please keep your iPhone protected with a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, because anyone who can unlock your device can see your saved places and notes.

Children

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have rights such as access, correction, deletion and objection. Because we do not store your data on our side, you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app (view, edit or delete your places). If you have any question, contact us at [to be completed]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (Prezes Urzędu Ochrony Danych Osobowych, uodo.gov.pl).

Important notice about navigation

  • The arrow shows the straight-line direction to a saved point. It is not a route and does not take into account roads, paths, water, cliffs, private property, closed areas or any other obstacles.
  • GPS and compass readings can be inaccurate or unavailable, for example indoors, in forests, near buildings, cars, metal objects or magnets. Distances and directions shown in the app are estimates.
  • Always watch your surroundings, follow local laws, signs and rules (including rules about private land, protected areas and forest access), and use common sense. Do not rely on the app as your only means of navigation, especially in remote areas or in emergencies.
  • The app is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, injury or damage resulting from the use of the app, from inaccurate location, direction or distance information, or from places or notes that you shared. Nothing in this notice limits rights that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when the app gets new features. The date at the top shows the latest version. Important changes will be announced in the app or on the app's website.
